What is passion?

When we talk about having passion for something, we might think about a lot of different things. For some, they might be passionate about their golf game. Others are passionate about the one they love. Some might be passionate about a project at work. It seems funny to use the same word with so many different things. What do they all have in common?

Passion involves two things in any definition: Intensity and Enthusiasm. We feel passion when we allow ourselves to engage our emotions and become excited about the object of our passion. This holds true for work, for relationships, and even for things like hobbies and passing interests.

Let’s look at a few truths about passion you might not have considered before.

Passion is the Real Deal
Too often, Passion isn’t taken seriously. It’s thought of as a hobby or worse, a dream you have. Passion is a serious business, though. When you’re passionate about something, you’re not just killing time with it, you’re throwing everything you’ve got into what you’re doing. That’s action, not fantasy.

Passion Can be Intangible
There are many things we do, which cause us to create something which we can touch and feel. Passion, though, can very easily be wrapped around a feeling, an idea, or concept, like being passionate about a political cause.

Passion Pushes You to Do Things
Why do you do the things you do? When it comes to doing the hard stuff, passion is generally to blame. After all, why would you push yourself to do something which might even push you outside your comfort zone if you weren’t passion about what you’re doing? More often than not, passion is the impetus you need to get started.

Passion Creates Ambition
Once engaged, passion doesn’t just put you in motion, it makes you eager to throw yourself at your goals. Passion is said to be the root of any kind of ambition and is the reason you’re fully invested in those goals.

Passion Itself is Unstoppable
Think you can stop it? Even if you try and walk away from what you’re passionate about, you’re not going to get far. Your passion will still be there, in your thoughts and dreams, nudging you until you start moving forward again.

Passion is about Happiness
In the end, passion is found when you’re doing the things you love doing the most. In short, when you’re happiest, passion is probably mixed up in there somewhere.
